Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Passed away in hospital August 26 surrounded by loved ones, following a fall at home July 16. Predeceased by Hugh, her loving husband of 54 years in 1998 and daughter Eva-Marie Marchioro in 2009. Mom was a woman of deep faith and the heart and soul of our family. She is survived by Ian (Amy), Domenico Marchioro, Rita (Miraldo) Marchioro, Annette (Ronald) La Brosse, Alma-Louise (Michael) Norris and Paul. One of mom’s greatest pleasures was holding a baby close in her arms and she did so often with 11 adored grandchildren: Fiona (John) de Visser, Heather (David) Koga; David (Corrie) & Michael (Lindsay) Marchioro; Silvia (Craig) Dunbar, Catherine (Kevin) Prichard; Lauren (Travis Robertson) & Marc La Brosse; Terrell (Megan Shaw), Michael & Kathleen Norris; and 15 1/2 great grandchildren; her sister Rita (Jean-Yves) Perron, Montreal; many nieces and nephews in Montreal, Winnipeg and Vancouver. Born the eldest of four in the French Canadian farming community of Vonda, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Saskatoon in 1937 so that mom could attend Normal School, her first job was in a two-room school in northern Saskatchewan at the tender age of 18. Mom and dad married in May 1943 just prior to dad going overseas. Mom always remembered her prairie roots, but was very happy that dad wanted to settle in BC after the war. The family grew to 6 children, all the while she continued a 38 year teaching career, a lady ahead of her time! She inspired students over generations at schools including Our Lady of Fatima in Coquitlam, St Euphrasia’s boarding school for troubled girls- which later moved from 14th and Ash in Vancouver to South Surrey and became Rosemary Heights, Hamilton Junior High and finally teaching French at Carson Graham High School in North Vancouver. Mom and dad were founding members of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Vancouver and as an accomplished musician mom expressed her faith by sharing her gift in the choir for almost 40 years, as director for 20!  Both teachers, they loved the summer and being with their kids and then the grand kids. Summers were spent swimming, picnics at Stanley Park and Hatzic Lake, a grand camping trip across Canada in 1964 with 5 kids and building the cabin at Whistler in 1969 followed by years of fun skiing. They also enjoyed lawn bowling with friends at QE Park and when retired, the Oakridge Seniors’ center. In 1992 they moved to Coquitlam and were active at the Dogwood Seniors’ Center where they bowled, mom sang with the Songsters and focused on her painting- we all treasure her masterpieces. When macular degeneration and arthritis made it difficult to live on her own mom moved back to Vancouver in 2003 and lived with Annette & Ron. For the past few years she has greatly enjoyed attending the Renfrew Seniors Center program and we thank all those wonderful caring people. Special thanks to Dr. Sharon Sundvick for years of compassionate care. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 31st at 2:00 pm with visitation beginning at 1:00pm at St Mary's Catholic Church, 5251 Joyce St., Fr. Gabriel de Chadarévian, OP Celebrant. Interment on Tuesday, September 4, at 11:00 am at Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby, BC. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart & Stroke foundation in mom’s name.
