Short of her 94th birthday Alma Cottrell died peacefully on December 16, 2016 in Vancouver at VGH.
She will be greatly missed by her 2 daughters; Judy Cottrell, and Lynda Cranston(James) of Vancouver.
She had been physically challenged over the last year and more recently which led to her admittance to VGH. Prior to the last year, she had been well at home with a daily full time care giver.
Alma was raised in Finch Ontario with her 2 sisters. She married Robert (Bob) Cottrell in 1946 and moved to Cornwall Ontario where she was a full-time housewife and participated in organized community sports. She had played on her high school basketball team.
Her two daughters were born in Cornwall and once they were attending high school she re-entered the work force on a part time basis. For many years, Alma had spent the summer with her girls on Hamilton’s Island at their cottage on the St Lawrence River while Bob commuted daily to and from work in Cornwall.
Her husband Bob and her two sisters predeceased her.
After her husband’s death, she moved to Vancouver in 1987 and lived with her daughter Judy till her death. She loved the weather here and loved travelling to new places especially if it was warm.
The family would like to thank Penny for the outstanding and wonderful care she gave to their mother, the wonderful staff on 8A in the Centennial Pavilion who were so patient and kind and to Dr. John Ridley for his compassion, sensitivity, and support during her last few days.
Alma will be laid to rest beside her husband in Cornwall, Ontario.
