Allan was born on August 14, 1935 in Canora, Saskatchewan, to John and Lillian Anaka.  In 1944 his family moved to Vancouver and Allan was enrolled in grade three at Strathcona School.  There he met his childhood sweetheart, Verna Ann, who remained the love of his life.  They married in 1956, and shortly afterwards welcomed a son, Rick, and a daughter, Sharon.  In 1963 Allan began a long and successful career in the radio business.  Starting in sales at CKLG, he was appointed General Sales Manager a year later, and over the years went on to hold that position at other local radio stations including CJOR and CKNW.  In 1985 Allan accepted the position of Sales Manager at CHQR in Calgary, and spent twelve years there, eventually becoming President of the station.  In 1996 he received the Western Association of Broadcasters “Broadcaster of the Year” award.  The following year he and Verna moved back to BC and settled in New Westminster, happy to again be close to family and friends.  After his retirement at the age of 65, Allan and Verna enjoyed many road trips to California to visit their son and his family, and were active and supportive in the lives of all their six grandchildren.  In more recent years, the blessing of six great-grandchildren and their frequent visits were a great source of joy to him. Allan is predeceased by his brother Jack and nephew Gregory, and leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Verna, son Rick (Dana), daughter Sharon (Mark), grandchildren Allan, Catherine, Ryan (Lara), Chelsea (Paul), Tracey (Jon), Kelly; and great-grandchildren Ambrose, Hazel, Eloise, Blaise, Cameron, and Rebecca.  A private funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Michael’s Parish by Monsignor Bernard Rossi, followed by burial at Gardens of Gethsemani.  Since it was not possible to have a gathering at this time, the family asks that you please remember Allan in your prayers.
