We are so very sad to announce the passing of our dear Dad, Allan (Buster) Ellsworth Graham at VGH, following a fall and hip fracture at home. We were so very grateful that Dad was able to live at home until the end. He was exactly two months shy of his 100th birthday. It seems he wanted to celebrate that milestone with Mom/his beloved wife, Kathleen, who predeceased him on September 9, 2017.
We will remember him as a kind, generous, calm, patient, gentle, humble and very smart man. He loved to read, enjoyed playing crib and was a great crossword man. After retirement, he took up the hobby of winemaking and made some mighty fine wines.
Growing up as the son of a CPR Engineer he spent his early years in North Bend, BC. He always loved the place and wanted to go back often. He served in the Army in WW2, stationed in Halifax and Little Mountain in Vancouver. He worked on the sea for most of his life in various posts, culminating in his position as Chief Engineer on the BC Ferries. He often joked that even though he worked on the water most of his adult life he couldn't swim.
He is survived by his children, Joan, Ken (Sandra), Linda (Doug), and Ron (Linda); and granddaughters, Alison and Kayla.
As per his wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes will be placed with Mom at Mountainview Cemetery in Vancouver. A celebration of life will be held at a later time when it is safe.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Salvation Army or any other charity of your choice.
Thank you to the kind and compassionate nurses and doctors at VGH, and to his family physician, Dr. Paul Beveridge.
