Alicia was born in Transcona, Manitoba on Sept 25, 1942, to Nicholas John and Emilia Marie (nee Kishensky) Hunchak. She was baptized Elisia Marie Geraldine Hunchak. Her earthly pilgrimage came to an end on May 17, 2024. The first of three children, she is survived by her brother John, and sister Marianne. Her Funeral and burial will be held on June 21, 2024 at 11:00AM at the Gardens of Gethsemani near White Rock, BC, Canada.

She was married to Larry Wood for fourteen years and they had five children together. These children are Catherine, John, Peter, Teresa, and James. From these came her set of five all-male grandchildren, Liam, Ansel, Lars, Axel, and Jacob who lovingly remember her as their Granny, the same moniker that Alicia’s children had used, and with which they lovingly remember Alicia's mother.

Alicia enjoyed immersion in nature, many genres of music, and animals (including insects). She almost always had a dog and/or a cat receiving her care. She greatly enjoyed her vocation as a high school teacher, and was much beloved by her students.

She loved her children deeply and joked that she wished she had twins every time she had a child so she could have had 10. Her children are grateful for the resilience, sense of adventure, enjoyment of education, as well as the compassion and forgiveness with which she continues to inspire them.

She remains a devout Catholic who throughout her life made frequent (and some valiant) successful efforts to attend charismatic conferences, Catholic pilgrimage sites (such as Israel and Italy), prayer meetings, daily mass (especially solemnities, memorials, and feast days), and regular Sunday mass. She brought her children with her on these journeys whenever she could. She was a 3rd order Franciscan. She spent her last days at the Columbus Residence in Vancouver where she could persevere quietly with loving assistance in her sacramental relationship with the Lord, God. Her epitaph quotes the prophet Habbakuk, verse 3:19 expressing joy that God will bring her strength to attain the heights of His majesty. May she, with the Mercy of God now rest in that very same eternal and abiding Peace, Love, and Joy.
