With deep sadness, but peaceful hearts, we announce the passing of Ted (Alfred Edward) Turton on
December 15th, 2013 in his 84th year. Born to Alfred and May in Brandon (Manitoba), Ted enjoyed his formative years there but left at an early age to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams. They proved
to be many and varied but early instincts focused on resources and resource finance, participating in two major events – the discovery of the rich Pyramid lead/zinc deposit and the formation of the Brenda Mines group. Shortly thereafter he bought a small, local brokerage firm which, together with partner
Peter Brown, grew to become Canaccord Financial.

A true gentleman, Ted always found and thought the best of those he met. He mentored others by living his values of honesty, loyalty and integrity. As he prospered, he never forgot his humble beginnings or failed to share his prosperity. There are many who owe their business success to this kind and gentle executive and equally as many less fortunate who were touched by his generosity. Ted will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his compassionate nature, kind spirit and generous heart.

Throughout their 37 years together, Ted and Deanna enjoyed memorable trips cruising and traveling in Europe as well as especially fond times in the desert, where they spent their winter months for many years. Some of Ted's best memories were of time spent with dear friends at Bighorn. He particularly looked forward to his golf there and cherished the camaraderie shared during innumerable card games, in any and all formats. Ted was a long time member of Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club, where he learned to love the game, together with the many enduring friendships it brought him. Although weakened by Chronic Heart Failure and COPD, Ted continued to enjoy the time spent looking out at the Island and many beautiful sunsets, his evening cocktail with Deanna, visiting with friends dropping by to reminisce and the company of his beloved pup Benj Buttons. Ted’s wish to pass at home was fulfilled.

To our many friends who have not only supported us during these challenging times but been there "holding hands going around dark corners", we thank you all. We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the dedicated care, kindness and compassion shown to Ted and Deanna, during these last months, by their family physician, Dr. James K. Lai and his exceptional staff. In addition, our thanks to Pacific Spirit Palliative Home Care Team, particularly Lori, for her steadfast guidance and unfailing support throughout this difficult journey. We were blessed to have Care Aides Julius and Cary and Nursing Staff Noland & Rachel, who gave Ted constant care and attention, particularly as his journey progressed.

Ted is survived by his wife, Deanna, his daughter Deborah, grandson Alan (Terra) great grandchildren Sam & Dylan, granddaughter Amanda, daughter Sabrina (Joel) grandchildren Eli & Max, daughter Julia (Edward) grandchildren Nolan & Harper Lane. He is predeceased by his loving parents, and sisters Winnie and Audrey.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 11th at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Larch & 37th Avenue at 1 pm and followed by a gathering for remembrance and sharing at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, 4300 Southwest Marine Drive. A private family burial will follow on Monday, January 13th.

On Sunday, January 19th an informal reception is planned at Bighorn Golf Club in Palm Desert. Guests are welcome to drop by the Clubhouse between 2 pm and 4 pm to share memories, love and laughter with those who have been touched by Ted's life. Please RSVP to Concierge@bighorn.com or by calling 760.341.4653 if you plan to attend.

Please consider, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Ted's name to either Covenant House Vancouver, a charity committed to improving the lives of our at risk and homeless youth, or to Ted & Deanna Turton Endowment for Oncology Nursing Education at B.C. Children's Hospital Foundation.
