At one month shy of his 97th birthday, Alex Zablotny passed away peacefully while in care in Burnaby, BC.
Born in Belarus, Poland (at the time,) Alex came to Canada in 1928 with his family, and settled in Sarto, Manitoba. As a teenager he worked in the family store, first in Winnipeg , then in Inwood. After the store unfortunately burned down, Alex decided to leave and head West to BC. In his new home, he explored different careers, most notably his taxi driving. He eventually saved up and bought his own taxi which he happily drove for many years. He also enjoyed his time in Real Estate, where he was respected and sought after due to his great client care skills. Alex was very proud of working on one of the first land assembly deals in the lower Lonsdale area.
Along the way Alex gained a great love for horse racing where he spent many hours going over the racing forms to make careful and calculated bets. He enjoyed travelling with friends to California and Toronto to the various tracks. He was also an avid golfer for many years after retirement and then enjoyed watching golf on TV once he no longer played.
Alex enjoyed a long life as a bachelor, an intriguing brother and uncle to his extended family, and at an impressive 96 yrs. Alex has lived the longest of his siblings so far.
He is predeceased by his parents Peter and Dominika, siblings Leonard, Toni, Mathew, Walter, and Edward, and is survived by his sister Agnes and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to George Derby Care Centre, Burnaby, for their caring support and comfort for Alex.
A Family Celebration of Life for Alex will be held in the spring of 2024.
