Alan passed away quietly on Saturday Feb. 20, 2010 at Richmond General Hospital,with his wife Donna and his sister, Sr. Catherine Marie Macdonald (aunt Rita), at his side. Alan was predeceased by his parents Alex and Veronica Macdonald and his brothers Gordon Macdonald CSB and Ronald Macdonald. Thankfully most of his children and grandchildren were able to say goodbye during his final days.
Born in Theodore Saskatchewan and raised in Rosetown Sask., Alan received his BSn in Saskatoon and earned his Medical Doctorate at the University of Ottawa in 1955.
With the loving support of his wife and high school sweet heart, (nee Donna Dales) at his side, Alan opened his practice in Vancouver in 1956 where he raised his 3 children, Leslie, Martin and Ruthmary.  Alan was the friend and family doctor of many lower mainlanders for over 50 years and was much respected in the community for his kind and gentle manner.
Alan was a member of the Serra Club, The Bereavement Foundation, Bountyfull Counseling Society, and founding member of the Catholic School Board.  He was also an active volunteer for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and a supportive hockey dad.
Besides his wife and 3 children, he leaves to mourn his 9 Grandchildren, Mia, Chris and his wife Christine, Darren, Andrea and Emily, and Anthony, Claire, Benjamin and Angela deWeerdt. He also leaves to mourn his sister-in-law, Kay Macdonald in Calgary.
Prayers will be offered at 7:30 pm Thursday February, 25, 2010 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 4451 Williams Road, Richmond, BC.  A mass of Christian burial will be the next day, Friday, Feb. 26 at 11:00am at the same church.  Reception will follow at the church.
