Alan died surrounded by his loving family at Buchanan Lodge in New Westminster, B.C. on July 3, 2023. Alan is survived by his wife Zoanne, children Tom and Siiri, sister Leila Evindsen, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Orrie and Kerry Babiuk and Butch and Angela Sanderson, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Alan was born in New Westminster. He spoke Finnish with his family until he began school at Sir Richard McBride. Alan kept busy by delivering the Sun newspaper, playing baseball on the Sapperton Comets, joining Cadets, and getting up to various hijinks with his childhood friends. He met his wife Zoanne at NWSS. He left school to work at Woodward's. Alan and Zoanne married in 1962 and welcomed their twins in 1969.

Alan loved working for Woodward’s. He worked on the food floor of most Lower Mainland stores at one time or another. Alan then worked for Safeway until his retirement.

Alan loved being with family and friends. He loved to laugh, socialize, and share stories with others. Alan was also generous with time to help others. He enjoyed yearly hunting trips with friends, curling, and being a member of the Langley Rod & Gun Club. Alan also enjoyed travelling with family through the US, going to Cancun, taking cruises and trips to Germany, Finland, and Italy.

Without a doubt, Alan lived a long and happy life. He will be dearly missed by all who love him. We can take comfort in knowing that the world was a better place for having him in it.

The family sends sincere thanks to the staff of Camelia Park at Buchanan Lodge for their kindness and the care given to Alan.

He will have a private interment at Fraserview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice in Alan’s name.
