Just the name George brings a smile to the face of anyone who knew him. His generous, kind and fun loving nature endeared him to those whose paths he crossed as a steward at Birken Forest Monastery, a member of Point Grey Lawn Bowling Club and as a resident of the Sanford Building and Drop in Centre. After four months of declining health George passed away peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital on February 15th 2022. He leaves his life partner, love of his life, Margit Hunt, his step daughter Stephanie Hunt (Nathan), his young brother Edwin, his aunt Irma West, cousins, Ajahn Sona, Georgia Krebs (Andreas), Gena Harrington (Terry), Alice Dootoff (Barry), Maynard Robinson (Susan). He will be greatly missed by his Austrian family and special friends, Billa, Azra, Julie and Maria.
Born Alan George on New Years Eve 1951, in Kaslo BC, George's birthday was always well celebrated. After graduating from Centennial High School in Coquitlam, George attended Simon Fraser University before deciding to spend a couple of years lift operating in the early days of the now famous Whistler Resort. He went on to work for RivTow Straits and Johnston Terminals before serving as a Steward at Birken Forest Monastery for the remainder of his working years.
George will remain in the minds and hearts of his family and friends.
