Alan Frederick Charles Emmott, son of Burnaby's first mayor Alan Emmott and Burnaby Museum Founder June Howarth, passed away after suffering a massive stroke.

He was a talented guitarist with an innate ability to replicate any blues lick with professional zeal. He fell in love with the music of the 40's and 50's and also knew how to rock any Beatles' tune as he had a special, rare touch on the instrument.

He was a unique intellectual in that he couldn't jump through the pedagogical hoops of the educational system, but was highly intelligent. He possessed an amazing memory and talent for numbers and dates, and he could often be found reading or writing in places like the SFU library, at the home he shared with his friends, or at his late father's residence on McKee Street.

He loved his family dearly, especially the children, carefully curating the gifts he would give them for Christmas, always asking if the items bought were in fact the ones they wanted.

He will be remembered for his love of licorice allsorts, a good rockin' tune, quiet contemplation while enjoying a smoke, writing screenplays and other kinds of prose, and appreciating books and art.

A hard worker, he will also be missed by his team members at the labour-intensive workplaces which he embraced later in life.

He is lived on by his brother Graeme, his brother Vaughan (Thea), his nieces Leah and Kristina (James), his nephews Gareth (Jamie) and Rhys, his grand-niece and nephew Cecelia and Aidan, and many of his life-long friends.

May he rest easy in love and peace.
