Agi Radcliffe (nee Lindner) died peacefully at age 89 on December 27, 2023, with her children at her side.
Agi was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Dick (in 2018), and 5-year old brother Shanyi (in 1932). She is survived by her four children, Jane Gray (Paul); Michael (Ljubi), Stephen (Cathy) and Julie Reynolds (Patrick), 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her sister Juci Berger, 5 nieces and nephews and their families.
Born in Timisoara, Romania to Hungarian-Jewish parents, Eugene and Anna Lindner, Agi's childhood was uprooted by war. Her family escaped to Tel Aviv in 1943, where they spent 6 years awaiting immigration to Canada. They were fortunate to have sponsors who assisted them in settling into Vancouver.
After learning English at age 15 (her 5th language), Agi enrolled at Prince of Wales school, then a year at UBC, followed by training at VGH to become an RN, where she made life-long friends. Agi met and started dating her one true love, Richard (Dick) Radcliffe while they were working at the Bank of Montreal on 10th & Granville. They married in 1957, and had 4 children. She raised their young family in a houseful of love where everyone was welcome. She found time to develop her culinary skills, plus excelled at sewing, knitting, home decorating, and playing bridge.
In her mid-30's, with her kids all in school, Agi sought new challenges, and took up tennis at Vancouver Lawn. She also returned to work part-time by running BC Children's Hospital's recently formed Lactation Support Service, and became a sought-after expert on breast-feeding and the benefits of human milk banking in her 25 years there. Countless babies and parents were the beneficiaries of her assistance, and many stayed in touch for years.
In her 60's and beyond, Agi found a passion for golf, playing at Shaughnessy Golf Club, and in Palm Desert, where she and Dick enjoyed winter vacations together for 35 years. She continued to be involved at BC Women's and Children's Hospitals as a tireless volunteer for over 20 more years after her retirement. She contributed to many causes, giving her time, money, and delicious baking for various fundraising events.
To her last day, Agi frequently expressed gratitude for her wonderful life, good friends, and large, loving family. Her genuine interest in people was exceptional, and she loved to share photos, stories and her perspectives on life and relationships. She adapted gracefully to the challenges of age and her cancers, living every day with positivity, style, and interest in the world around her.
Agi's family extend their deep appreciation to the staff at Braddan Private Hospital, and Dr. Sukhi Jassar.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 3:00pm.
