Born in Noordwijkerhout, Netherlands and emigrated with his family after World War II in 1947. Arriving in Montreal, the family made their way to Bradner in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia.  He worked hard with his siblings to establish various entrepreneurial ventures.  With his brother Wim he established Art Knapps Nursery.  He later created a retirement project in Port Kells, Surrey and named it Art’s Nursery.  Art’s nursery has grown and continues to thrive under the stewardship of his daughter Rebecca and her husband Mike.

Art was a devoted husband to Dorothy and Father to Adrienne, Mark (Terri), and Rebecca (Mike), Opa to Roisin (Kris), Kate, Maya, Alita and special affections to dog “waffles”.  Survived by his brother William (Lillian), his last remaining sibling of eight children. Art had a strong faith in God and his Catholic faith. He was generous with his time and his treasure donating both to the service of his Church and contributing to parishes and schools.  All who met Art, and worked alongside him grew a strong respect and love for him.  A man that accepted and encouraged all – believing in the optimism and confidence of the human spirit.

Art died at home surround by loved ones in Fort Langley, BC - Special thanks to the palliative care team and home care workers at Fraser Health.
