Harry Wallace White

May 8, 1945 - January 2, 2018

Harry was a remarkable man, always loved and close to his family – a kind and gentle friend to all, a mentor to many and one who led by example, always with kindness, wisdom, courage and optimism. Harry dedicated his life to golf and opened up an avenue for young people to learn the joy of the game by organizing and running golf tournaments that were challenging, fun and taught golf etiquette and good sportsmanship. He was a life-long member of Marine Drive Golf Club, a member of the 1969 and 1972 Willingdon Cup golf teams, played and won multiple golf tournaments and was a founding member of the B.C. Golf House Society. Harry worked to ensure successful participation for his young players in many tournaments including the Junior Americas Cup, Optimist Jr. World Golf, Zone Jr. Tour, Jr. Linksters and Little Masters Tour. Predeceased by brother, Dick and nephew, Michael, Harry is survived by brother, Frank, sisters Pat Byrne and Gerri Tarchuk, many nieces and nephews and an army of friends. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, January 10th at 7 pm at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1345 W. 73rd Ave., Vancouver. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 11th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry’s memory may be made to BC Golf House Society, 2545 Blanca St., Vancouver, B.C. V6R4N1

It was my pleasure to have known Harry since 1974 when we both worked at Canada Trust as well as being fellow Optimist Club members. His outstanding contribution to both Optimism and, more importantly, his unwavering love for the game of golf will never be forgotten by the legion of junior players he mentored over the years. Rest in Peace H!
